On Saturday, April 16th, 2016, the 1st Nebraska Volunteers Brass Band played the opening concert for the Strategic Air and Space Museum’s “Science of Music Day.” In addition to concerts the museum staff presented a variety of music and science related workshops and demonstrations, and showed kids how to construct a home-made guitar.
1st Nebraska played in the ground floor atrium at the center of the building in between two airplane hangers, one featuring World War II and later bombers, and the other that provided area for restoration. Due to the marvelous construction of the atrium our sound wafted throughout the museum.
We played crowd favorite standards like Dixie’s Land Quickstep, Listen to the Mockingbird, When Johnny Comes Home, and Glory Hallelujah! Grand March. New featured songs included Soldier’ Chorus, Freischutz Quickstep, and Hunters’ Chorus. Commenting our our performance, Phil Onwiler, Educational Director for the Museum said, “I absolutely loved hearing your group perform, it was a great addition to our Saturday!”
Stay tuned for details about our next performance in Plattsmouth, NE on Saturday, June 18th, at 7:00 PM on the Main Street Stage.
