Now Booking 2020 Performances

Hi Everyone,

Boy, it’s been quite a while since I posted here on 1st Nebraska’s online blog. We finished our 2019 season by recording for two days in November. We’re currently doing post-production on the songs and expect to have a new CD available in May

We’re currently booking performances for the upcoming 2020 season. We have accepted invitations to return to Superior, NE for their Victorian Days festival on Sunday, May 24th at 2:00 pm, and to return to Fremont, NE for the John C Fremont Days on Saturday, July 11 at 1:00 pm. We’re also in negotiations for a performance in Des Moines, IA this summer.

If you know of a festival, reenactment, or other event where historic music would be welcome please mention us to them. Give them our website address so that they can view videos and listen to audio files, and also give them our contact information (whall1946@gmail.com or 402.575.8220).

We look forward to seeing many of our friends again this summer and to playing some new pieces for you!

2019 Season About to Begin

1st Nebraska’s 2019 performance season is about to begin! We start on Sunday, May 26, in Superior, Nebraska with a concert for the Superior Victorian Days festival. The band last played in Superior in 2017 and are returning by popular demand.

Superior has a very nice band shell in its City Park that also hosts a memorial to its fallen Civil War soldiers. The large park is shaded by mature trees, has convenient parking, and houses the city swimming pool. All in all, it’s a wonderful performance venue.

Our concert will begin at 2:00, and will include patriotic songs from the North and South, popular songs of the day by composers such as Stephen C. Foster, and even a piece from a well-known opera of the period. The program is narrated to inform the audience of the significance of the music and the roles the bands played during the Civil War.

The concert is free to the public thanks to the sponsorship of the Superior Chamber of Commerce.

If you’re in the South-central Nebraska area on Memorial weekend stop over and enjoy the concert!

Come to Superior’s Victorian Festival

Sunday, May 28th, will be the next performance for 1st Nebraska. We’ll be traveling southwest from Omaha to Superior, Nebraska, right on the Kansas border, to play for the Superior Victorian Festival. Our concert will be presented in the City Park Bandshell located at 6th and Bloom at 2:00 pm.

2017 marks the 26th year of Superior’s festival to recognize its Victorian era heritage. Like many Nebraska towns, Superior is a railroad town being on the routes of four different lines. Growing up in the late 1800s the city has several restored Victorian houses and offers tours during the festival. No town festival would be complete without a parade, good food, and parties.

C’mon out to the festival, enjoy all the activities, and bring your lawn chair over to the City Park Bandshell at 2:00 on Sunday, May 28th. You can enjoy an hour of vintage Civil War brass band music. Hope to see you then!
